EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD):  The Next Era in Sustainability Reporting: from Compliance to Long-Term Value Creation

The CSRD has entered into force in 2024, aiming ultimately at bringing non-financial reporting on a par with financial reporting. With a set of comprehensive European Sustainability Reporting Standards (“ESRS”) recently adopted, and a significant expansion in the scope of undertakings required to report on sustainability, it is expected that the CSRD/ ESRS will require extensive effort by most undertakings to achieve compliance. Compliance is the only way forward. But is the CSRD more than just mandating ESG/ sustainability disclosures?
